From June 1st Finland will stop recognising non-biometric passports issued by Russia, citing document-security concerns. Exceptions will apply to minors, holders of Finnish residence permits granted before the cut-off date, and special individual cases. A transition period until the end of 2026 will allow entry for holders of such passports if they contain valid visas or residence permits issued before June 1st by Finland or another Schengen state. Finnish authorities say biometric passports reduce fraud risks and have urged affected travellers to prepare in advance.
