Prime Minister Mark Carney said Canada supports US and Israeli airstrikes on Iran “with regret,” framing the move as a response to Tehran’s nuclear ambitions while criticizing Washington and Jerusalem for acting without consulting allies or the United Nations. Speaking in Sydney, Carney called the conflict “another example of the failure of the international order” and urged immediate diplomatic efforts to prevent escalation. Carney stressed that Canada would not participate militarily and denied that Ottawa’s stance was linked to trade negotiations with President Donald Trump. He acknowledged domestic criticism and polling showing significant opposition to the strikes, but argued Canada must engage “in the world as it is” while pushing for a broader negotiated settlement beyond the United States, Israel and Iran.
