**A criminal case has been filed with the Riga City Court against a Latvian national for transferring money with the aim of supporting Russia's illegal military operations in Ukraine, reports LSM's Latvian language service.**

The defendant transferred 42.86 euros to the armed forces of the aggressor state through an acquaintance in Belarus, it is alleged.

The prosecutor's office announced that in December 2024, the defendant responded to a call from a contact in Russia to provide financial resources for the purchase of drone suppression equipment for Russian soldiers on the front line in Ukraine.

Realizing the illegality of her actions and the fact that it was not possible to make a transfer from a Latvian credit institution to a Russian credit institution, the accused contacted her acquaintance in Belarus and asked her to make a money transfer on her behalf, without informing her of the true purpose of the payment. The acquaintance agreed to make the transfer in accordance with the accused's instructions to a person in Russia, prosecutors claim.

The donation amounted to 42.86 euros (157 Belarusian rubles), according to prosecutors. The defendant was arrested on December 2nd, 2025 and has been remanded in custody as a precautionary measure.

She is not named, in line with standatrd legal procedure, and is described as being 'valstspiederīgo' or a 'Latvian national' – a category that includes citizens (pilsoņi) and so-called 'non-citizens' who are permanent residents who enjoy the protection of the Latvian state but who have not taken citizenship and therefore cannot vote. Usually these are Soviet-era immigrants.
