Idk, I think Turkiye is a great counter to Israel.
Israel can’t do preemptive strikes because NATO and US nuclear umbrella. Great military. Seems like a great regional power to have in the middle east.
Who would you rather have? Saudis? Pakistanis? Nobody(thus leaving Israel unchecked)?
Important as it pertains to the future of NATO. The opinion article author suggests that turkey is the next major obstacle to peace in the region, who could expand into the vacuum left by Iran in the same way Iran entered the vacuum saddam left. The article also cites Turkey using the threat of refugees to obtain funding as extortion.

The war in Iran isn’t even close to being over and they’re already laying the groundwork for their next dumbfuck dipshit adventure

Aren’t we already busy containing Iran and Russia and North Korea and China and Cuba while also antagonizing Europe and Canada and South Korea and Mexico and 50% of our own country?

Fuck it, at this point there needs to be a counter-balance to Israel in the region. Even if we close our eyes and decide that the fate of the Palestinians has already been sealed, Israel has done nothing for us to believe that it will be cooperative in the building of a stable Syria.
The right-wing religious lunatic parties there keep getting more powerful and what’s worse is that they’re more popular among the younger generation. It has already acted like a rogue state and will push boundaries further without someone keeping them in check. And Erdogan, while with his own massive baggage, is a million times better than most of that region’s leadership. Remember that we’re allies with a man who likely personally ordered a dissident journalist to be butchered inside a diplomatic mission.

it’s just sad how these people never stop to consider that maybe Israel as well is a major obstacle to peace in the region, more so than Turkey???
