Submission statement: An opinion piece about the wisdom or lack thereof of going to war with Iran. Ben Wittes makes a series of statements that should be uncontroversial, about the outcomes of the war so far which are desirable, the possible outcomes that are undesirable, and the illegality of the action. He then compares Trump to a BASE Jumper, who keeps taking reckless risks. Perhaps this one will work out, perhaps not. I thought it was a good opinion on the war, from someone who’s an internationalist and institutionalist national security journalist.

How many innocent civilians are going to die so that Ayatollah Ali Khamenei can be replaced by Ayatollah Bali Bhamenei?
I need a good analogy for this, its like, you can’t take the death of one guy out of context of what it took to achieve it. I guess i should say, yes, its strictly speaking good that hitler is dead but the guy who killed Hitler doesn’t deserve any points for it. Not even in a “he’s still bad but he killed hitler” sense. No. He gets zero points for killing hitler. Trump you get zero points for killing Khamenei. You don’t get some points that are outweighed by other bad things you did, you get zero points.
