Summary: Last year, Gen Z protests in Madagascar led to a military coup of the government. The military leader who became President appointed a Prime Minister who he then suddenly dismissed last week. He has now appointed a new Prime Minister with a background in fighting financial crimes and corruption.

Relevance: The success or failure of these Gen Z protests in Nepal, Madagascar and elsewhere sets a real precedent globally. Also, I should think that a change of government in any UN state should always be relevant. From a global perspective, the African Indian Ocean has some strategic value in the superpower fight between the U.S. and China – think of Diego Garcia. The DW article states that this President has been courting Russia.

Also read this Al-Jazeera article. I know Al-Jazeera triggers a warning on this sub, which I don't dispute. But I also know that as long as I've been alive they have always covered Africa stories more frequently and more closely than many Western sources, so I feel that the AJ team deserves a pass on Africa stories.
