Submission Statement: I suppose I can’t just use a gutteral, desperate, furious scream as a submission statement, can I?

The Trump Administration is deploying industrial policy to simultaneously do two things: derail energy infrastructure in blue states and bolster American oil and gas production in red states. This is a war both on renewable energy and on his perceived domestic enemies.

It is also further evidence of the shocking degree of regulatory capture and outright corruption this administration has been characterized by more than any other in US History. I suspect this is what a Huey Long presidency would have looked like.

This is relevant to the sub for several reasons:

    1) Economic policy: the US is pivoting aggressively away from renewable energy and doubling down on oil.

    2) Regulatory capture: nearly self evident, but this is one of the defining features of the Trump economy and governance.

    3) Foreign policy: Trump is trying to leverage US fossil fuel production as aggressively as possible as a tool for US international power, or at least a hedge against the consequences of his adventurism

it looks like the trump administration has finally figured out a solution to its problem of constantly losing in court when defending its regulations.

    1. issue blatantly illegal regulation or EO that bans company from doing X

    2. company challenges the ban in court

    3. “settle” the lawsuit by paying company giant sum of money to stop doing X
