It is well known that every day, 3 stovetouchers are born to every one that dies.
But what is less well known is that the population of stove touchers always expands to meet the available stoves. Technological progress creates more stoves so the stovetoucher population can keep growing.
When we socialize the cost of burnt fingers through universal healthcare but privatize the warmth of the stove, we are essentially subsidizing stove-touching. We need a Land Value Tax on the kitchen floor to optimize stove placement.
Unless wisdom and institutional learning improve faster than new stoves get built. Current data is not encouraging (the stove just got 3 feet wider!).
