  1. Submission statement: The European Parliamant, the Commission and the Council have all banned their press teams from using fully AI-generated visuals. The Commission believes that this move will help foster trust in the EUs communication.

Relevance: We’ve seen a lot of debate regarding the use of AI in various products, and especially in communication. Given that the use of ai-videos and images have become widespread in politics, a discussion on when and how to use it in political communication is good to have.

My opinion: I think it is a good move by the three big EU institutions. I don’t believe we should see the use of AI as bad, but when it comes to political communication, especially by governments and institutions, trust is key, and so here a ban is useful. The only worry I have is how easy it would be to overturn it, and which mechanisms they have in place to review photos and videos. I.e., how do they verify third party content?
