This Song has been in my playlist for years. Still being displayed in my favorites as by Mos Def. Yasiin Bey has legally changed his name in 2011 and retired his Mos Def persona. Searching for the Song in the Spotify App only lists the song by Yasiin Bey. I am not sure when this has changed on spotify or if it is related to the censoring.
HOWEVER
The song regularly pops up in my shuffle but today is the first time I've noticed a few seconds of missing lyrics in the middle of Slick Rick's verse (2:45). Specifically the line 'No, give me my oil, get fuck out my country' – a young Iraqi kid answering to an American soldier asking if he is hungry.
The editing feels quite sloppy as the lyrics cut back in abruptly.
I myself do find the timing of this censorship in relation to current geopolitics peculiar to say the least.
