Thankfully it’s Texas and they’ll actually honor an ICE hold. Blue states would give this guy bail and let him back out on the streets.

The “Sanctuary State” concept is just so moronic. In a state that fully cooperates with ICE, the vast majority of ICE arrests are via ICE detainers filed with jails and prisons on aliens that have been accused or convicted of a crime.

If you don’t trust ICE to be making arrests on the street, why not have them make arrests in the extremely controlled environment of a correctional facility, where there are cameras everywhere and where state/local law enforcement actually has some authority over federal law enforcement if they witness misconduct.

If you don’t want ICE arresting “law abiding” illegal aliens, have them arrest aliens that have already been arrested for something.

If you don’t like ICE grabbing people who are out on bail because it means that those people don’t get to face state justice, don’t grant them bail if they’re subject to a nice detainer.

If you don’t trust ICE to take care of inmates and provide them food, medical care, religious services, and legal services, have your jail/prison contract with ICE so that your local authorities will have oversight over conditions. DHS will pay for it, you get to make sure aliens are having a great time in custody, and the aliens generally get to stay near where they were arrested, making it easier for family/friends to visit and support them.

Sanctuary cities make things worse for everyone involved. ICE has to track people down in public, where they might encounter armed people, people who want to fight, or people who want to flee, which are all risks to the involved parties and the community. ICE is also more likely to encounter “law abiding” illegal aliens that aren’t their target and have to take them into custody.
