Immediately after the December 3 insurrection, former President Yoon Suk Yeol attempted to send a message to then–President-elect Donald Trump. The message reportedly stated that he “supports Trump’s philosophy and will govern South Korea based on a Christian worldview.” The special prosecutor suspects that this message was drafted to justify the insurrection and to sustain the effect of martial law. According to JTBC reporting, the comprehensive special investigation team has launched a full-scale probe into the National Security Office, which led the drafting of the message.
This is an exclusive report by reporter Yeon Ji-hwan.
In the early morning of the day following the December 3, 2024 declaration of martial law, the Yoon presidential office sent a message to then–President-elect Trump aimed at justifying the martial law.
A presidential office document titled “Additional Explanation to the Trump Side” clearly reflects an intention to seek retroactive approval from the United States for the martial law, which had not been coordinated in advance.
The document states, “President Yoon Suk Yeol places the Korea–U.S. relationship as the top priority in diplomacy,” and adds, “He will build relations with the new U.S. administration based on this position.”
It also specifically says, “He supports Trump’s philosophy,” and that “he has strived to govern South Korea based on a belief in liberal democracy and Christian values.”
[Kim Young-bae / Democratic Party lawmaker (November 2025): “They sent a two-page summary asking that the following points be explained to the White House and the Trump transition team… Looking at the approval line, it includes Kim Tae-hyo and Shin Won-sik.”]
According to JTBC’s reporting, the comprehensive special prosecutor investigating allegations that the National Security Office participated in the insurrection has secured this document and is conducting an investigation.
Messages intended to be sent to the United States, the United Kingdom, and the European Union are also under investigation.
The message states, “We maintain a position of opposing pro-North leftist forces and anti-Americanism,” and claims that “martial law was a political demonstration carried out within the framework of the Constitution.”
This reflects the same logic used to justify the so-called “enlightenment decree.”
The special prosecutor has conducted a search and seizure of former deputy national security advisor Kim Tae-hyo—identified as a key figure at the time—and has applied charges of engaging in essential duties related to the insurrection.

And it did not net him one single iota of visible support from Trump or any United States government apparatus.
Traitors of the world unite! You have nothing to lose but your pesky democracies!
Reading the phrase “Liberal democracy and Christian values” would make Trump lose all interest so this tracks with his lack of support during the coup
Yeaaaaah…..probably time to do some cracking down on the Christian influence in the Government.
