This is bizarre and extremely aggressive behavior from the NEA, it puts them in a bad position when it’s time for them to negotiate with school districts on behalf of their members again. It’s union busting 101, being done by a union.

Union bosses can be some of the toughest people to negotiate with when they’re sitting on the other end of the table. SEIU has also employed similar tactics. A union staffer I know once told me there’s three types of management: “management, fucking management, and union management.”
I do doubt this’ll have as many repercussions as the article says. Teachers unions that have striking power tend to have considerable clout with their states and school districts, and it’s not for the public sector simple to employ the same strikebreaking measures that private orgs & businesses can.
