  1. Submission Statement: As the far-left flank of the party grows in power and influence, some of the strangest elements of it are getting a bigger, strangely positive spotlight, including pro-shoplifting stances. The left’s biggest darling Hasan Piker speaks in support of it.

  2. Leftist will spend all day on reddit crying about capitalism but won’t steal a 12 pack of diet coke at self checkout

  3. I mean, people will do a lot of things because they can. Not everyone has a complex calculation in their head but most people have some awareness of what risks and rewards they’re facing in their daily actions.

That’s why internet piracy has always been the most popular. They’re most difficult to enforce and value is not that low

Yes I’m sure stealing a bottle of Gatorade from a bodega owned by a first generation Vietnamese immigrant is gonna bring the end of the bourgeois.

I absolutely hate the term “micro-looting”. It’s the must useless and stupid fucking thing I’ve heard in ages.

Mainly because it’s not a term that’s needed – we have a term for people who lift stuff from shops already.

But also because there is no righteous crusade in stealing a KitKat or deodorant or whatever from a supermarket. And that’s not even the worst, stupidest or most disgusting part of the podcast, but it was the intial thrust of the debate. I’m amazed that the NYT thought it okay publish this.

New political protest? Maybe someone should Steal This Book and realize that shoplifting as a form a protest is not new.

  7. I steal things at Walmart self checkouts because I love stealing, but am too much of a pussy to do a real heist.

    We are not the same.

Does this include stores like Target? They just wait till you steal enough to make it a felony.

  9. I remember seeing a clip of protestors robbing some old man’s hotdog stand back in 2020 and people were using this same argument.

  10. Is this what the New York Times is now?

This was one of the most infuriating conversations I’ve heard in a while. Wanting to glorify anti-social behavior by dressing it up as social activism. “I’ve stolen from Whole Foods…. but not because ***I*** shop at Whole Foods, it was part of a community organizing direct action program for my elderly neighbor. And I paid for everything else, I just went back to steal a couple of cheap produce items 😇”

“Oh I would never dine and dash, in fact if I saw that happen I would probably just pay the bill out of my own pocket 😇 But yeah stealing from corporations is epic”

They got all the way to flirting with justification for killing business executives, and at no point in this half hour long discussion did any of them even suggest that stealing might just be wrong inherently.

Three rich leftists telling poor people they should steal more as a counter to inequality.

Without the attack on the messenger, it’s still a wildly stupid discussion about stealing from Whole Foods or department stores. Stressing that they might become heroes because of 3 fictional characters that Americans love (not sure many Americans actually know who Jean Valjean is). They give it a fun little name of “microlooting” to minimize that they’re just condoning crime.

This has to be one of the most out of touch conversations I’ve seen this year. Up there with most of the economic messaging from the Trump aadministration.

This is more useful as a window into the breakdown of the American social fabric and social contract than anything else

The mental gymnastics leftists do to feel justified in their antisocial behaviors. Can we please just scream from the rooftops that we hate these people and eject them from the Democratic party? They literally only exist to hold unhinged and unpopular beliefs that Republicans can pigeon hole all Democrats into.

No one is better than the Democrats at snatching defeat out of the jaws of victory.

Petty theft and shoplifting is not good actually. Leftists should stop doing mental gymnastics and be serious.

Even a first offense for shoplifting something worth less than $150 can get you 90 days in jail in PA, I am sure other states are similar. And guess who is most likely to get that 90 days instead of probation.

The only people advocating this shit are those privileged enough to afford lawyers or white enough to take advantage of institutional racism.

The proof that this is a downwardly mobile millennial phenomenon is that the first store they talk about stealing from is Whole Foods and not Walmart
