How the hell do you even become a substitute teacher at 19? I thought a bachelors degree was the absolute minimum requirement – no way this person had that.

For those who are even less caught up with the modern times than I am: standards are thrown out the window when dealing with Marginalized™ groups. All barriers to entry *no matter how sensible* are removed and then the media says >>>FIRST marginalized <whatever> makes HISTORY
They call us all bigots for not trusting who they tell us to trust, then when it turns out to be yet another case of *the Muslim TV channel founder who went on to behead his wife* they call us bigots for judging him.
You’re supposed to have a professional license to teach just like you’re supposed to have a professional license to be a lawyer or doctor or contractor. The standards in any given location might also be lower for subs. I have seen some daaaamn bad people as K-12 classroom teachers, but not as bad as the people who subbed for them. One sub was who I and the entire rest of the school would describe as *the most stoned person we’ve ever come across*, and one guy I had as a kid put on an hour long lecture about the illustration on the front of the textbook. He drew on the board about it, he gave names to design elements on the artwork, he acted like this was important for all of us to know. Not the worst sub but one of the more memorable ones.
