Impeachment is a political trap for Democrats

  1. It’s interesting. I thought (hoped) impeachment would backfire on the Dems in 2019-2020, then they went and won everything. It didn’t make sense. But in such a polarized climate where they will literally vote for a pile of poop if it has a D next to its name, I couldn’t have been but so surprised. Next year though I think is different; I find it hard to imagine the Dems getting on board with impeachment for one big reason: Trump WILL be a lame duck; he cannot be elected to a third term (despite what he may say or wish, whether jokingly or not); he legit IS done on January 20, 2029, at noon o’clock Eastern Time. Assuming the Dems win the House this year, when they take office on January 3 (I think), at that point there’s about two years left in Trump’s term; a few months after (let’s say, May/June 2027 if not sooner), I’m almost certain that we’ll start seeing people announce their candidacy for President, even with the election a year and a half away (Cruz announced in May 2015, Trump in June). Sure, the Dems will say “we can walk and chew gum at the same time,” but with everything else that will be going on (since, apparently Congress still has to DO stuff), I can totally see them just trying to “run out the clock” on Trump’s term; they’ll reject (along party lines) everything Republicans want, and that will be it. If the Dems win the Senate as well, then forget any judicial nominees getting through. It will just be gridlock for two years, leading up to the 2028 election.

Obviously, I could be totally wrong. But if the Democrats are wise, they won’t bother with impeachment; they won’t need it anyway, as Trump will soon be gone (two years FLIES by).
