H.R. 8445 was introduced by Reps. Guy Reschenthaler (R-PA) and Max Miller (R-OH) and would extend military protections to U.S. citizens serving in the IDF.
As of early 2024, roughly 23,380 American citizens were serving in the Israeli army.
No comparable US program extends SCRA, USERRA, or veterans' benefits to Americans serving in other foreign militaries. Americans have served in the French Foreign Legion, Australian forces, and the Ukrainian International Legion with no equivalent legislation ever proposed.

As a US Navy veteran, I would like to wholeheartedly say FUCK YOU. The US citizens serving in the IDF can ask Israel for military protections and benefits.
