It’s always been said in “official” circles that Weishaupt’s crew ended activities in 1785 but now they’re saying 1787.

Also interesting to see a Freemason link with someone leading the group until 1787.

>”On 1 May 1776, the Ingolstadt canon lawyer Adam Weishaupt (1748–1830) founded the Order of the Illuminati. The ban imposed by the Electorate of Bavaria in 1785 has long been regarded as the end of the secret society. However, the Gotha research shows that under the leadership of the translator and **Freemason** Johann Joachim Christoph Bode, the Order continued to exist until 1787 – with a focus on Thuringia. Gotha thus became its final stronghold and is today also a key location for its academic study.”

Some theorize that Weishaupt’s group and ideas continue on through secret societies like Skull & Bones. Some have said that The Jesuits created The Illuminati and were connected to Scottish Rite Freemasonry.

More about Freemason Johann Joachim Christoph Bode.

    >”Member and Past Master of Lodge Absalem at Hamburg. Served as deputy grand master of the Grand Lodge of Hamburg. In 1782, he opted for a radical interpretation of Enlightenment and broke with the Christian mysticism embodied by Jean-Baptiste Willermoz. He met Adolph Knigge, a member of Illuminati, which he joined, acquiring the rank of Major illumitatus in January 1783. After the order was banned in Bavaria in 1784, he became the de facto chief executive officer, following Knigge’s resignation and Weishaupt’s flight.

    >He then participated in the controversy that raged in Germany following rumors of the conversion to Catholicism of the Protestant German prince and the anti-Papist reactions that followed. In 1787 he went to France, Strasbourg and Paris, where he met members of the Lodge of Philalèthes. **According to his travel journal, some of them comprised a secret core, the “Philadelphians”, in the manner of the Illuminati.**

    >He died in Weimar in 1793.”
