>He said pushing back on the violent settlers — many of them armed by the state — could spark a civil war.
it’s really understated how much of a problem this is, and how arming settlers to make the israeli state curbing them impossible is an explicit goal of the current administration

It’s very bleak. Israeli far right government does virtually nothing to stop/curb this and sometimes even abets it. There are now even illegal settlements in Area B. The unit of Israeli soldiers who put a CNN journalist in a literal chokehold got suspended for a few weeks and but are now being redeployed when they should have been criminally charged. It’s a country where the worst, most loathsome actors are empowered atm. West Bank violence has skyrocketed since the Iran war. Ben Gvir’s police is more worried about [this](https://www.haaretz.com/israel-news/israel-security/2026-05-01/ty-article-live/iran-says-it-is-not-realistic-to-expect-quick-results-from-talks-with-u-s/0000019d-e13a-d153-a3df-e1be3d4e0000?liveBlogItemId=1990342234#1990342234) or [this](https://www.cnn.com/2026/04/23/middleeast/police-detain-jewish-man-kippah-israel-palestinian-flag-intl)
It’s funny that this is exactly the same problem that Lebanon has with Hezbollah.
