Ottawa recently banned all speed cameras statewide. This provided a very good natural experiment on how effective speed cameras are at enforcing the speed limit compared to police checks. Ottawa released a report showing the compliance before and after the ban, and how many drivers were driving far above the speed limit. I think the graphs speak for themselves.
