  1. SS: I’m an upstate New Yorker and just like to watch the state and city fight while my rural neighbors get angrier, really. (I assume about the massive subsidies they get from the city, idk)

    This is a state and local budget situation, which is at least interesting. The article reads to me that Mamdani did this mostly with increased taxes (and some efficiency improvements) and then talked to Hochul to get the remainder. Presumably so both could say “look, this budget is balanced” even if the state’s is not.

    Interesting enough. An LVT would have fixed this.

  2. From elsewhere in the states, it appears Mamdani has genuinely been excellent at coalition building especially after such a contentious election. Like being able to work so well with the governor is impressive while still excelling at communicating not just with his base
