**Submission Statement:** A once-fringe strain of right-wing politics centered on masculinity has breached containment and entered mainstream discourse. Many on the right argue that feminization of society is both the cause and effect of society al decay, and only by reclaiming dominance can men (particularly white christian men) set things right. The pathways to this line of thinking are many. Dating issues? Women’s fault. Male loneliness? Women’s fault. Economic insecurity? Women’s fault. Lack of civic engagement? You guess it – Women’s fault. While many of these frustrations among men are real, the solutions offered by the right aren’t actual solutions, more of an airing of grievances against an easy scapegoat.
The second order line of thought is is that submission is actually in women’s best interest. Here’s where the MAHA and crunchy mom movement intersect with the larger MAGA culture. Women need to be protected – from gays and jews and blacks and muslims and migrants, but only men can protect them. It’s an almost mafia style of extortion; obey men and you’ll be placed under our protection.
