With the help of Claude Code, I was able to put this together in less than a day. Right now it leverages county level data and synthetic modeling at the census level, but I'm hoping to expand it down to the precinct level. Let me know if you have suggestions

  1. To be honest I just don’t get the point of Congressional Districts in the first place, at least on the current environment.

Like, if you are a representative you are supposed to well, represent your district, but how can you truly do that when your district is a amorphous patch of land cynically carved for political reasons? How can you truly represent an algorthmicly created random blob in the map?

  2. I feel like the world would be a better place if most countries did their districting with the intention of maximising the number of competitive seats.

A solution? Lol. Who’s looking for one of those?

In all seriousness though, this is dope as hell.

We ought to get rid of single member districts. It seems pretty clear at this point that politicians primarily work with their supporters or those who aren’t far away from their positions. So if we just elected 5-15 people per district everyone will have someone to work with and ask for help.
