Submission statement: The former SNP Chief Executive, and husband of former First Minister Nicola Sturgeon, has plead guilty to embezzling over £400,000 of party funds between August 2010 and January 2023, which he used to purchase various luxury goods. This is the latest major development in the long-running party finances scandal, and whilst both Nicola Sturgeon and former SNP treasurer Colin Beattie were released without charge following their arrests during the investigation, many questions remain concerning how this was able to go on for so long.
The biggest question of all is how Nicola Sturgeon herself could feasibly not have known what was going on, considering Murrell is both her husband and was an extremely important senior figure in the party's internal workings, but there are questions for the rest of the party as well.
