Trump is an instrument of national self harm, like Brexit. If it wasn’t him, another instrument would have been found and used.
America really wants to fuck itself up, so that’s why things like “we have good policies” won’t really work and why Democrats struggle to offer some grand vision – because American society today cannot support such a vision so anything they can offer won’t stick.
So Democrats will win in November because of anger, but they can’t fix things and things will keep getting worse because the self harm need isn’t going to do away.
