Submission statement: This is a short and sweet article discussing research done on conservative voters by The SNF Agora Institute at Johns Hopkins University, and ReD Associates. I thought it gave an interesting thesis for why messaging about restoring democracy and political norms has fallen flat for the median voter.
>We learned that the central question for the conservatives we met is not “Should America be a democracy?” Instead it is: “Has American democracy remained faithful to what makes it legitimate?” Democratic institutions are legitimate, in the view of conservatives, when they honor and protect the faith, freedom, families, and communities of their constituents. When institutions and the politicians who inhabit them fail to appreciate the centrality of these core values, they become illegitimate.

You just have to remember that these are just simple farmers.
My problem with these articles is I feel like they’re interviewing people who have been targets of a full court press propaganda campaign their entire lives. But the framing of the article just ignores that, and pretends like these weird belief systems just appeared organically

Donald Trump does defend conservative values, these people are not duped or ignorant, they just have hateful values.
