This event is meant to call public attention to the need defend free speech, press, assembly, and petition against government pressure and industry self-censorship. These are all liberal values that are under intense sustained assault by the Trump administration.
The No Kings coalition is amplifying the event and encouraging people to get together for it. From No Kings:
