How Not to Save Money on Gas

This article makes a lot of good points. I’ve had a Tesla for 3 years now and I love it. I have over 60,000 miles on it and it’s still going strong with minimal battery degradation. Having said that, it’s better in the long run to buy a $20k used gas car than a $50k new Tesla if money is the only reason to buy the car.

The equivalent cost for my EV for just driving it would be paying $1/gallon for gas. It does 0 to 60 in 3.5 seconds and drives itself. I’ve taken it on 5000 mile road trips and I prefer it over a gas car.

I didn’t buy it to save the planet or money, I bought it because it’s fun and a great car.

Okay, now, most of the Cobalt in the world, needed for the batteries, is mined in the Congo.
You can check these facts btw.
The Congo uses Child Labor to mine that Cobalt. Also the Lithium is mined by child labor in Nigeria.
So go clapping yourselves on the back for buying an EV.
Now you have the environmental impact.

Here is what happens after a mine closes basically…

Key points regarding recovery and impact duration include:

    * **Permanent Landscape Scars**: Open-pit mines and evaporation ponds transform natural landscapes into barren zones, and disturbed lands are **”rarely restored to their original state.”**
    * **Soil and Ecosystem Disruption**: Deforestation, soil erosion, and chemical contamination disrupt habitats and soil fertility, with natural recovery described as difficult and prolonged.
    * **Water Contamination**: Toxic leaks from evaporation pools or processing can poison reservoirs and downstream ecosystems, with incidents like the Liqi River showing recurring deaths of aquatic life even after mine closures.

Don’t you EV folks feel so environmental, letting other countries destroy their natural resources and ruin their land.

Reminds me of all the people who whine about deforestation of the United States and simply don’t even think about the millions of acres constantly clear cut in South America.

Must be nice to not care what happens to the rest of the world while simultaneously thinking that you are being environmental with EVs.

I have a better idea, convert to biofuel and use Hemp to create it. Lot better than an EV.

  3. In a lot of situations an economical ICE car will make more sense than an EV. I have solar and battery so I pay next to nothing for charging my Tesla.

I’d rather just make a diesel electric hybrid that uses a diesel generator to charge the batteries.
