One of the main consequences of a ‘Rent Freeze’ is that landlords start to leave units empty instead of renting them out as the maintenance cost will outweigh the rent costs (and this already happens a lot in big cities with rent freeze programs). The people in power, however, don’t actually care because they know they can just blame the greedy landlords and push for government owned housing as a result

  2. In red Texas.
    Rents are falling much faster than the national average.
    First of all Texas is building a lot of new apartments.
    More supply drives prices down.
    Second the Trump enforcement of immigration laws means fewer illegal aliens are in the state and renting an apartment. So this frees up even more inventory.

  3. They never attempt to increase supply? I wonder why?

    It’s almost like they don’t really want to solve the problem.
