I've heard a lot of theories about this. One of the main ones is that the entire 1960s Los Angeles music scene was essentially a psyop, with certain bands being used to normalize or promote drug use among teenagers. I also looked into some of the claims, and one thing people often point to is that a surprising number of musicians associated with Laurel Canyon had parents who were in the military or worked for the government in some capacity, with Jim Morrison being one of the most well-known examples. I'm not saying this proves anything on its own, but I do think it's an interesting pattern that's worth discussing. Does anyone think this theory is actually convincing?
