Today, I speak, unfortunately not as an American, but as someone who still deeply loves this country and is deeply interested in its history. Many people misunderstand why the Founding Fathers were great men. They think this means they were without vices. The Founding Fathers were people just like you and me, people of their time, and it would be naive to assume that they were all free from prejudice and bigotry. Nevertheless, they were brilliant. Not because they themselves were saints, but because the ideas of the Declaration of Independence and the Constitution are the greatest abolitionist documents in history, calling for political and spiritual liberation, from any tyranny, and elevating to a pedestal the revolutionary idea of an individual determining his own path, independent of kings and tyrants. The phenomenal journey the United States has made throughout its history, from the abolition of slavery to the civil rights marches and even Obergefell, can be traced back to the simple phrase “Life, Liberty, and the Pursuit of Happiness.” And despite all the dark moments in history, the United States has always been a Beacon of Freedom for all those deprived of it, from those living under absolute monarchies to those living under fascist and communist dictatorships. Therefore, I believe that even after the darkest night comes dawn. Never lose hope and dont stop thinking about tomorrow!

Happy Fourth of July, my dear American friends!

    The year is 2026.

A diet high in protein is associated with a desire for more traditional social values.

A diet high in fiber is associated with hopes for a more egalitarian society.

It’s mostly wealthy people interested in the latter, btw. Many of you somehow still consider “is this the bad place?” a question worth asking.

Feels weird to have so many things I’m looking forward to in my future this year after most off last year was just spent counting the days. It’s good though

This, and the fact that conservatives would call anything they didn’t like ‘socialism’ during the Obama era is an understated reason for the current electoral success of socialists imo

If Trump ends up ‘out-socialisting’ the Democratic Party by taking stakes in companies and picking winners and losers you can’t be surprised when the Overton window shifts!

Given the restoration of pre-war flows out of the gulf countries through alternative routes and hidden tankers, I think it’s fair to say that Iran’s card of blocking the strait of Hormuz has weakened considerably as the war has progressed. But this absolutely does not mean Iran has lost all leverage over the US and gulf countries.

The threat Iran holds is not just over Hormuz, but over the infrastructure of the gulf countries. Not only can Iran still attack oil and gas facilities, but if it wanted to, it can also threaten other hard targets like data centers, ports, and military assets, as well as soft targets like tourism and finance.

I also think Iran hasn’t escalated as much as it could. The bombings of missile sites near the beginning of the war did dampen some of Iran’s capability, and Iran in recent days has been relatively restrained in retaliatory attacks, using tit-for-tat tactics against the US. However, Iran has been restocking its munitions and restoring launch capability. If Iran believes it is once again in an existential situation, then we could see much more grievous damage happen to gulf infrastructure. Hence why even with Iran’s hold over the strait weakening, US officials are still generally cautious with regards to Iran.

  10. Still don’t understand the pronounced hostility to the antinatalist/childfree subcultures considering they keep to themselves and don’t harm society.

no really, baldur’s gate 3 had mostly digital and a smaller boutique physical product that they egregiously upcharged with a few little doodads/trinkets to “justify” it, why not let that go on even? seems dumb to me

he makes some really good points here imo. Immigrants (even in first gen in my experience) are more assimilated now than they have ever been in the past but that hasn’t really stopped the nativists who will always shift goalposts when challenged. If ‘joining the Boy Scouts’ doesn’t make you assimilated enough in their eyes then nothing would. There is no point engaging with them, you just end up sacrificing your dignity

You like Alexander Hamilton, because he was always writing like he was running out of time, Immigrants – they get the job done and he was just like their country, young scrappy and hungry and he would not throwaway his … shot.

    I like Hamilton because he:

    – was a founding member of the hereditary patrilieneal officer organisation the Society of the Cincinnati, and its second president

    – advocated the President to serve during good behaviour, for Life, as His Excellency, and same as the Senate.

    – Divided between the few: the rich and trhe well-born, with permanent stable power because durable government requires institutions insulated from transient public feeling,

    – and the many, the unstable and unchangeable who lacked the stability and discernment for systematic government.

    – Wanted the Federal Government to appoint the governors of the states with veto power.

    Based.
