Japan arguably just passed the biggest reform regarding the royal family since the Meiji Restoration through the Lower House and its nearly certain to pass the Upper House
Now women who marry commoners aren’t kicked from the Imperial Household (ala Mako and Komuro), and the members of the “main line” royal family are allowed to adopt heirs from branches of the royal family that have since been rendered common
But importantly it _doesn’t_ undo the 1860s prohibition on women rulers. Because 🤷
