Would be interesting if you also made 2020 and 2021 stand out more bc of the pandemic

We say it a lot online and I’m sure it’s a cheap shot from an American, but Germany (along with basically all of Europe) really needs to start investing in AC. Obviously AC has environmental impacts, but it’s not the degree of feedback loop that will cause heat deaths to remain the same or increase.
And to be clear I don’t think the burden should be on the individual here to renovate their home or buy 12 window AC units. This is a governmental failure that is essentially decades of climate change denialism, and people should push their government for better climate control infrastructure in buildings. Otherwise median deaths continue to get worse and the spikes will go higher

Submission statement: Climate change and the necessary adaption is a continuing discussion in this sub. During the recent heatwave there’s been a lot of back and forth about differences in AC adoption and differing cultural attitudes towards the technology. This graphic shows the tragic significance of lacking civilian infrastructure when a particular strong heatwave hits Germany in this example.

[Here’s additional information](https://www.rki.de/DE/Themen/Gesundheit-und-Gesellschaft/Gesundheitliche-Einflussfaktoren-A-Z/H/Hitze/Bericht_Hitzemortalitaet.html) from the Robert Koch Institut that gathers public health data. Of the ~5000 excess heat deaths in Germany this year, only an estimated 300 were below the age of 65.
