    >**Within President Donald Trump’s trade team, two sobering conclusions are emerging: China is cheating on its trade deal. And the US isn’t going to do much about it.**

Ever since the truce established in Busan, and despite China blatantly cheating by not sending other countries rare earths (see chart below), The Trump administration has been unwilling to retaliate against Beijing for this breach of agreement. In fact, any type of even slightly provocative action by US has been fairly restrained, [and even forcefully retaliated against by Beijing.](https://www.reddit.com/r/neoliberal/comments/1ug98gw/china_blocks_dualuse_exports_to_us_defense/) This comes ahead of a meeting between Trump and Xi in September, along with the upcoming midterm elections which may be factors in the Trump administration’s dovishness towards China.

I’d also like to add, this silence comes at a pretty bad time for Europe, who might want to coordinate tariffs with US against Chinese exports. But without US, the European response to Chinese exports will be far weaker, and the retaliation from China more severe.

For the guy who bills himself as tough on China, no president, not even Nixon, has done more to boost them on the world stage, or bolster their economy. When the Chinese invade Taiwan on March 7 2027, they’ll probably even rename the place Taidon to honor his efforts.
