Tldr: The National Security Agency and White House Office of the National Cyber Director also considered putting out an advisory on Chinese AI lab threats last year, practically discouraging U.S. companies from using their tech, the source said.

You will pay more for gpt/Claude and you will like it.

Apparently all the pro growth people left and all the natsec hawks remained

Open source is genuinely neck and neck with anthropic and chatgpt these days, and instead of asking why us or European labs aren’t able to do the same, we do this shit

  3. > The Trump administration is showing signs it could ban cutting-edge Chinese AI models — a momentous move that could lock in dominance by OpenAI and Anthropic.
Why it matters: Parts of the administration have tried to implement de facto bans on foreign open-source models before, knowledgeable sources tell Axios. Last week’s rise of Chinese model Kimi is reigniting those efforts.
    Pro-competition voices fear the implications.
U.S. companies are increasingly using open-source models from China because they’re cheaper and, as seen by the advent of Kimi, just about as good as the domestic technology.

That is not fighting Chinese AI, that is shutting your ears, scream “LALALALALALA” and hope they don’t surpass you while you are not looking.

You are just telling your locai AI companies that thwy won’t actually have to fight for dominance.
