Just weeks after winning an unprecedented fifth term as Seoul mayor, Oh Se-hoon now finds himself fighting for his political survival after a Seoul court fined him 10 million won ($6,820) Wednesday for violating the Political Funds Act, a sentence that would cost him his mayoralty if upheld.
The Seoul Central District Court found Oh guilty of receiving polling results from political broker Myung Tae-kyun ahead of the 2021 mayoral by-election and having businessman Kim Han-jung cover part of the cost. According to Oh se-hoon Law, a very strict political contribution regulation he pushed through in early 2000s as a MP, he would be stripped of office and barred from running for public office.

Seoul mayor Oh se-hoon is a giant in center-right politics and pushing to contain pro-Yoon far-right rampage. With this ruling, Oh and his Seoul branch of PPP would be significantly weakened and Jang Dong-hyuk, far-right national chairman of PPP facing call to resign after scammed by American MAGA lobbyists and losing local elections, would be strengthened.
