Personal opinion: If these talks lead to relatively fair elections & a democratic transition, I think the operation to nab Maduro is justified. For a few months, it looked like we nabbed Maduro only to make Delcy our puppet dictatorship, who'd do everything Trump wants in return for staying in power. But if we're backing talks on democracy (topics in the talks include appointing new Electoral Council members, modernizing the voter registry & an election date), then it seems that there's a decent chance that we may see a democratic restoration. Seems the opposition is really putting their faith in Trump. I hope they don't get burned by him (like so many have) like they did with Biden in the 2024 election that was supposed to be fair but ended up being rigged. Chile 1988 & Nicaragua 1990 both are examples of countries under authoritarian regimes having non-rigged elections (due to US pressure) that led to a transition of power to a democratic opposition. Hopefully the same happens here.
