Is the pro-family policy of Korean government which centered around prioritizing access to housing, medical service, daycare and education for newly wedded couples finally yielding result?
Korean bureaucrats have been focused on making it “profitable” to marry and have babies. From subsidies to paid leave for parenthood for both mother & father to prioritized housing access to young couples, they tried to engineer a society where being married and having babies benefit household financially. This drew criticism from western observers that this is a “dystopian” population planning policy that treats the population like breeding stocks. Western critics unless Korean culture changes, demographic collapse would continue.
But recent trend is challenging this western view. Coupled with increased immigration & rising births, Korea managed to continue to grow the number of residents living in Korea.
