I have a theory that women’s sports were weaponized and have been focused on by multiple scandals and bad optics to ultimately decrease the appetite for all sports so men have less of a space to enjoy things. Much like video and table-top gaming, as well as boy-scouts and other previously male oriented arenas, once women join in it all goes a different direction and becomes way less appealing, leaving men with less of a social outlet.
