**Submission Statement:** Trump rode to victory in 2024 vowing to bring down prices for average Americans, blaming the inflation run-up in 2022 – 2024 on Biden’s policies. Americans, who considered cost of living top priority, largely believed him. Nearly 2 years into Trump’s 2nd term, little progress has been made on the affordability front; instead MAGA policies (tariffs, OBBB, war in Iran) have accelerated it. Trump’s failures on the affordability front have been reflected in polling numbers and threaten to alienate “swing/moderate” voters who aligned with the GOP in 2024. It also signals a rift (though how wide the rift is, TBD) within MAGA itself between the more traditional pro-economics faction and the MAGA/Trump zealots.

This problem within MAGA has made itself manifest over the discourse over a $20 burrito, in which many elites of Trump’s inner circle and voices of the conservative media have taken up sides.

One of the commenters on the article got it bang-on I think

*I mean, the funny thing is, I kinda agree with those conservative commentators who say we shouldn’t declare an “affordability crisis” solely based on vibes and some of the most expensive food options out there. But that was also true in 2024! Where the whole Republican party chimed in to declare an affordability crisis! (Eagerly helped on by the hard left.) So, I think it’s true what Matt said: We really shouldn’t feel bad for Trump if this part of his platform suddenly blows up in his face.*

  3. Maybe parents should be happy to buy 1 American doll to their kids instead of paying more for Mexican burritos. Mexican food is very unfair, like their president!!! Food trucks are very bad deals!!! Glory be to Odin. Donald J Trump

  4. What kind of fucked up chipotle has a $20 burrito

My chipotle order is $12, $15 if I want a drink

Anyways yeah I think the author is pretty correct, I just wanted to talk about food
