Long story, but it hailed last night. All the hail melted some, but there are hard white pellets inside that are not melting. On the sidewalks you can see spots where some left water and are still drying and others where it is completely dry. I held the one in my hand and squeezed it over 6 minutes and nothing… it is still a hard white little ball.. I have seen a ton of hail.. never this..
Has anyone else seen this? I wouldn’t be as concerned if I actually trusted the government… looking for a reasonable explanation from someone else that has seen this happen to them.
Is it salt? (I do not live near ocean)

So like someone noticed that ice was falling from the sky and decided to not slip by spreading ice melt pellets? Kinda like that?
Taste it
It was hailing but that is a piece of Nerds candy that has lost it’s color from soaking in the melted hail
It its ice melt, inside ice? 🤯
The photo is consistent with very dense hail pellets, or possibly graupel, but six minutes in a fist without changing in size *at all* is interesting. Are you sure you aren’t being hyperbolic?
My recommendation would be to grab a spoon and place it on the spoon, indoors, where you can check on it every few minutes for signs of melting.
Could be nitrogen pellets if the lawn was recently treated. They spread stuff like this to feed lawns
The core of Hail is much more condensed, like an iceberg or a snowball. The outer shells have melted away and the cores are now dropping from treetops and roofs, or we’re simply larger and your now looking at their insides.
If you pickup hail while its dropping you can visually see all of these layers if the hail was big enough.
Those are for sure nitrogen pellets fertilizer.
Clearly it’s melting
