  1. Submission Statement: Believe he was posted a few days back here, when the news about his plagiarism came out. RIP

  2. This whole thing was really about the larger culture war shit about DEI in elite institutions, and now this happened.

The British right wing media are evil as fuck. He got caught up in the toxic culture war and they hyperfocused on him due to his race.

Cambridge are heavily at fault here. In hiring him without performing due diligence they chose to make him a big showpiece for the university which only made the target on his back even bigger when his blatant lies inevitably came out. And even then, they could have responded promptly, but in trying to deny the undeniable they just invited more media scrutiny. And of course that media scrutiny snowballed into a frankly out of proportion media pile-on as it became a locus for culture warfare on both sides of the Atlantic.

It didn’t really need to be a week-long front page headline news but we must continue to feed the social media frenzy at all costs. And now a father of two is dead.

Oh lord, that’s genuinely awful. Don’t even know how to respond fully, ugh, that’s just sad

This is a sad ending to a sad story. While Jason Arday certainly deserves blame for his deception, the real villains here are the University leaders who didn’t see (or chose not to see) an unstable charlatan in their midst and used him for clout. The real victims are all the black academics who’ll find it that much harder to be taken seriously in their fields as a result of all this.

  7. RIP.

I feel terrible for him and his loved ones. Whatever he did in terms of plagiarism, he absolutely did not deserve to have his life end like this or to feel that it had to.
