It’s hard to know. Could be the reasons you mention, or a number of other things. Some people fight because their back is against the wall. Some people fight just for fun.

One side is raised their entire life that all of current israel AND greater israel is promised to them and that they are God’s chosen people and no one else. So of course thats going to create a special kind of nationalism impossible anywhere else.
The other side has been at war with Christians and jews for thousands of years, some inspired by the fact that they were already there, some just good old jihadis.
This isnt a conflict you can end. It will never end until one side or both sides are wiped off the map
Thats the thing too. Israel has an awful goverment and are not good guys, but Muslim theoacracies arent good guys either.
