Its *just* a super hero movie, don't sweat it.

Sure.

But…I just can't shake some of the weirdness in this movie. I just can't. The film is absolutely steeped in hard, evil conspiracy. Right off the bat, Steve finds out Widow is conducting her own clandestine intelligence operation while they're supposed to be on a rescue/recon mission. Then he finds out that SHIELD is secretly conducting a giant underground warehouse facility housing the most sophisticated new AI military equipment in the world.

The same equipment is going to use predictive measures in determining the location and termination of citizens that it has deemed dangerous or undesireable. His black boss is nearly executed in broad daylight by many white men dressed as police. We even see themes of phone bugging and location tracking. The movie is even so bold to allude to the *very real* Operation Paperclip, as a Nazi splinter group known as "Hydra" has fully enveloped the operations of the US Government.

We even have a mysterious mind controlled assassin who is responsible for some of the most consequential political deaths of the past 6 decades.

Like, this movie feels more and more real with each passing year. Like this shit is DARK. No monsters, no aliens, just pure political human-techno evil.

Thoughts?

  1. Ever since the end of WW2, cap’s primary enemies have been hydra, the federal government and Taskmaster. In that order.

  2. they made an homage to 1970s paranoia movies with Robert Redford. the idea of the giant warehouse under the dc shield hq was a little dubious but i understand they needed to keep the plot moving
