SS: The environment and climate ministers of the 9 BRICS nations called the EU’s CBAM a ‘unilateral, punitive, discriminatory and protection measure that is not in line with international law’. In the joint statement made at the 12th BRICS Environment Ministers’ Summit held in New Delhi, the ministers likened the carbon border tax to a protectionist trade barrier, and reiterated that common but differentiated responsibilities regarding climate change should be voluntary and calibrated to each country’s national circumstances. They also urged wealthy and developed economies to triple the adaptation finance given to developing countries as stated in the goals adopted at COP30.
