This statement from Zelensky comes shortly after his former Defense Minister Fedorov called for elections, which backfired and resulted in him losing a lot of support. Zelensky now firmly states that there will be no elections in the short-term as that would only cause to further divide Ukrainian resolve at a precarious time like this.

Zelensky was reportedly in favor earlier for elections, but he kept that private and only when it was him and Zaluzhniy on the board. Given the public sentiment is against elections though, this is a free layup for Zelensky
