Jared Kushner, Netanyahu and the question of a potential conflict of interest
I’m trying to understand how people view Jared Kushner’s role in U.S. Middle East policy, particularly regarding Gaza.
There are several documented facts that I find difficult to reconcile, and I’m genuinely interested in hearing different perspectives.
1. Kushner’s family has had a longstanding personal relationship with Benjamin Netanyahu.
Netanyahu has reportedly been a longtime friend of Jared Kushner’s father, Charles Kushner. At one point, Netanyahu even stayed at the Kushner family’s home in New Jersey, with Jared giving up his bedroom for the night. Charles Kushner was also a major donor to Jewish and pro-Israel causes.

2. Jared Kushner subsequently became one of Trump’s most important Middle East advisers.
His family relationship with Netanyahu existed before his political role. Kushner was later deeply involved in U.S. policy toward Israel, the Palestinians and the broader Middle East.
3. After leaving the White House, Kushner founded Affinity Partners.
The Saudi Public Investment Fund committed approximately $2 billion to Kushner’s investment firm. A 2026 letter from congressional investigators states that Affinity managed approximately $3 billion from foreign sources, including the $2 billion from the Saudi PIF.

4. Kushner is now involved again in Middle East diplomacy.
In August 2026, Kushner met both Hamas representatives and Israeli officials, including Benjamin Netanyahu, as part of Trump’s efforts to advance the Gaza ceasefire/peace plan.

So here’s my question:
Where should we draw the line between legitimate diplomatic relationships and a conflict of interest?
I’m not suggesting that Kushner is secretly controlled by Netanyahu, that Israel controls U.S. policy, or that Kushner has committed corruption. I haven’t seen evidence that would justify those claims.
But isn’t there at least a legitimate appearance of a conflict of interest when the same person has:
longstanding family ties to a foreign political leader;
a major role in U.S. Middle East diplomacy;
substantial private financial relationships with Middle Eastern governments;
and is subsequently involved in negotiations directly affecting those governments?
Would the same situation raise concerns if the countries involved were Russia, China, Iran, or any other foreign power?
I’m genuinely interested in hearing both sides. What am I missing?
