      I think this development is worth taking into consideration when discussing the relationship between datacenters and YIMBYism

      Good thing ICE has been camped out at every construction site and Home Depot in America to whisk those that are here away to the gulags.

      Good things data centers are built like they can be easily converted to disaster response center once all the server racks are moved out.

      The trades we work with have been raising these red flags to our clients for a while now. There are some big data center projects happening currently and more on the horizon, and they are paying premium rates for trades to get the building up and then get everything wired. Our clients have been told that whatever their capital plans are to be aware that they will be working with slim crews no matter what and may need to pay extra for labor to get even that much.

      Haha what? This doesn’t even pass a basic sniff test. Average skillset for residential construction and commercial datacenter builds are miles apart.

      Framing is wildly different, electrical, hvac, plumbing is order of magnitude more complicated. Only similarities might be in concrete, but even still, the scale (and tools) are very, very different.

      Ed Brady is disappointed cheap labor can’t be beat to death on price by Lennar/Pulte/DR.Horton anymore.
