Heribert Illig went down a wild rabbit hole and convinced himself that 300 years of history aren't real. I think it's such a fun conspiracy that's clearly out there, but makes you think about how much of our history we believe just because it's what we're taught.

Fun until you remember that the rest of the world existed, outside the influence or contact of Europe, keeping its own calendars and time. Additionally, things like eclipses and comets, which occur with regularity, can be used to show that 300 years are not missing.
