Aluminum is mostly a side product of cheap electricity. Surely there is an abundance of that in the US if they feel comfortable freezing out competitors from outside.

SS – The US uses a tremendous quantity of aluminum, and they get most of it from Canada, which is now subject to a 50% tariff. Because there is no alternative source for that aluminum, businesses will simply have to pay it, and as a result their products will be priced out of export markets, and much more expensive within the US.
The absurdity of this cannot be overstated. Many US manufacturers of aluminum products for export would realistically need to move their factories to Canada or simply cease operations.
